Walden Course 6, week 3 discussion

My masters program is in the area of integrating technology in the classroom. My problem statement from week 2:

I plan to determine the effect laptop usage has on math achievement scores in middle school students.

Some possible questions I have come up with are ideas from (McMillan and Schumacker, 2006) in an example from page 59, they used to describe quantitative questions which covered: affective learning, cognitive learning and student motivation. With this in mind, which area should I develop my question around? It would be very easy to tweak the question to fit one of our school's Expected Student Learning Results (ESLR's).

Possible choices

1. Are there significant differences in student affective learning in a middle school math class between traditional learning without laptops and learning with 1:1 laptops?

2. Are there significant differences in student cognitive learning in a middle school math class between traditional learning without laptops and learning with 1:1 laptops?

3. Are there significant differences in student motivation to learn in a middle school math class between traditional learning without laptops and learning with 1:1 laptops?

  1. James,

Your questions are very interesting and I am sure you will be getting lots of information on this topic.
